Spotlight: Jade Purple Brown

If it’s one thing that brings me joy, it’s words of inspiration and bible scriptures. If you look around my apartment, you will see:

“Let your faith be bigger than your fear.”

“She believed she could, so she did.”

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart.” – Proverbs 3:5

“Be still.”

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust him.” – Romans 15:13

“Write without fear. Edit without mercy.”

When I came across visual artist Jade Purple Brown’s illustrations on Instagram and then her book, “Words to Live By,” I purchased it immediately. It’s an eye-catching colorful work of art filled with quotes by 50 inspiring women. From Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie to Ida B. Wells Barnett to Sojourner Truth, the book blesses us with a host of gems from movers and shakers we admire.

Brown has designed for companies such as Sephora, Nike, Zappos, Adobe, EOS and Tampax to name a few. There are many illustrators out there, but her work is identifiable. From the colors to the details of each drawing, you will know her work when you see it.

One quote from the book that resonates with me is:

“I’m not afraid of storms, for I’m learning how to sail my ship.” -Louisa May Alcott
