It’s March!<\/span><\/p>

And It’s also Women’s History Month. A time for us to honor, acknowledge and celebrate women who have paved the way and those who continue to contribute to society. It includes everyone from Ida B. Wells to Shirley Chisholm to present day shakers like Yara Shahidi, Issa Rae and Halima Aden.\u00a0<\/p>

Because of this, I’ve decided to highlight businesses and products created or run by women for the month of March.<\/p>

First up on my list is my bold top. It’s by\u00a0Washington Ave.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Washington Ave<\/a> is an upcycling vintage boutique founded in 2010 by Lakeitha Washington. For those who are unfamiliar with the term, upcycling is the process of transforming vintage clothes into new designs. So, for instance, your mother or grandmothers threds are not lost. They can be transformed into something your closet will love.\u00a0<\/p>

She’s based in Louisiana and her one-of-a-kind designs provide some form of comfort because you can rest easy knowing that you won’t see anyone else in what you’re wearing.\u00a0<\/p>

It’s also helping the environment. We buy endless amounts of clothes, wear it a few times and throw it away. This is what’s called fast fashion. So buying vintage pieces is contributing to what’s called slow fashion, which focuses on sustainability.<\/p>

I bought this top because I love the print AND the colors. Do you know how many things I can wear with this? Green pants, a yellow skirt, blue cigarette pants, white skinny jeans and the list goes on.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
