Vintage Belts

It’s all about finding something old and making it new. Or could it be embracing something old cause who wants something new? Maybe it’s combining the two?

Hmmmm.

Whatever it is, you know what I mean.

Thrift shopping is something I’ve done a handful of times. Upon walking into a store, I’m greeted with an overpowering smell that screams memories. All the clothes, furniture and knick knacks tell a deeper story. Where did it come from? Who wore it last? And why did it end up here? Blame the journalist in me. I’m always looking for answers.

The belt in this picture was not picked up in a store, but in my mom’s closet. A true fashionista herself, she has a collection of belts from the 1980s. This one in particular she bought while working part-time at Hit or Miss, a clothing store comparable to a modern day boutique.

Like most of us who work or have worked in retail, she worked where she loved to shop. In doing so, she spent money right where she earned it. Which is now, ok with me because I am now the beneficiary of her old school gems (yesss!).

This belt in particular is golden because the design is very unique. The neutral colors are braided in with wooden beads and best of all, it’s in excellent condition.
